We are a group of vibrant women who support the mission of AAUW:
AAUW advances gender equity for women and girls through research, education, and advocacy.
Some of the current top issues that AAUW speaks to are STEM, Pay Equity, and Sexual Harassment. AAUW’s Educational Fund awarded $3.7 million to women scholars and leaders this year. AAUW’s Legal Advocacy Fund is supporting the military women in their suit against sexual harassment in the military.
Our local branch provides programs, both for educational purposes and as well as for fun.
AAUW Mt. Vernon Branch was founded in 1956. We meet monthly from September through May with many activities interspersed throughout the year. We have a book group, dining out group, and a game night group. We hold presentations monthly on a variety of interesting topics related to the AAUW Mission. In 2013 we began ImprompEvents. To participate, members reach out for companionship on a variety of events and activities whenever they wish.
We are involved in community outreach with United Communities Ministries and Good Shepherd Housing and Family Services in the Mt. Vernon area.
Annually we co-sponsor, with the Alexandria Branch, a play at The Little Theatre of Alexandria to raise funds for AAUW Funds and our community outreach.
